I really should have better taste I’m sure but I’m loving Hell’s Kitchen with Marco Pierre White. I know he’s fronted it before but I didn’t see the last series. The last time I saw the show, it was Gordon Ramsey with Angus Deyton presenting. Deyton’s smug delivery was annoying enough in itself and Ramsey is just rude. Neither big nor clever. Well he is quite big I suppose and probably quite clever but his notoriously foul mouth was wearing night after night.
But where Ramsey is all arrogant and gobby in a testosterone-fuelled way, White is all self-assured presence and pop philosophy. He only has to look at one of the hapless z-listers in his kitchen for them to know they have failed utterly.
Of course he’s still a pompous arse. But somehow a much more likable pompous arse.
Could that be a helpful style in pioneer ministry?
